![]() Steam Link app I get like 4ms for wireless ping time (moonlight says 11ms for wireless latency though on same device and position), input latency less than 1, display latency is 21ms for TVs and 46ms for phone, average decoding on phone is 11ms, not sure on Shield right now. Normally Moonlight a bit better at higher resolutions but if you don't have NVIDIA you need to setup Sunshine too. Moonlight and Steam Link app on a decent device (I use a Shield normally) both run fantastic with host PC direct connected to a good router. Steam Link HW was good but honestly there's no reason to hunt down the old devices. Had to resort back to the wireless adapter connected directly to the pc. Something else pretty dumb about it is connecting a controller to it directly somehow screws with the button mappings. I barely use mine, it’s up to date, and it constantly flickers (seriously, epileptics beware. The image your computer transmits is likely very close to real time, it’s just that it doesn’t receive the controller’s input quickly enough.Īs for the hardware, the reason I say it’s okay is because it’s janky as hell. Any amount of controller latency will make it seem like the image is lagging behind. ![]() Having the wired connection, I would be willing to bet your image latency isn’t that high. I’ve played some Destiny recently on it without much issue. You keep the adapter plugged into your computer and play as normal, the device / app just transmits the image. If you’re close enough to your computer, you don’t necessarily need line of sight for it to work well. My solution isn’t very graceful, admittedly, but having that wireless adapter is pretty great. Adding in that your controller is connected to the Chromecast, that’s another layer of communication, and thus another layer of input lag. Something about the communication just seems slower on Bluetooth. In my experience, Bluetooth will always lose to a wireless adapter (like the Xbox wireless adapter for pc). The first is that the controller is connected to the secondary device, and the second is that it’s connected via Bluetooth. The way I see it, you have a few things working against you. Having a purpose built device for game streaming just makes so much difference - it has all the ports I could need and just works.įeel free to inbox me if you have any questions. My conclusion is that the problem was the CCwGTV - it just wasn't powerful enough to decode the stream. I basically have a PS5 in my living room now and I couldn't be happier. I'm sure that any single player game would run brilliantly. I haven't tried a FPS yet but Jedi Fallen Order was running really well. For couch co op games like Speedrunners and Ultimate Chicken Horse I couldn't tell the difference between the steam link and my actual PC. Took about two seconds to connect it all up via Bluetooth, but I did need a wired connection for the first one. At one point we were playing Speedrunners with 2x DS4s, 1x XB1 and 1x Switch Pro. Same setup as the Chromecast - pc is getting internet from a powerline connection to the router, and ethernet cable running from the router to the back of the Steam Link.Ĭonnecting controllers to the steam link was easy. Turns out my brother in law had a steam link physical hardware, so he let me have it and I had a crack. I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have!ĮDIT 13/03/22 - I thought I'd update you all on where I got with this. I'm wondering, should I buy the actual steam link hardware? Is it worth buying it though, at this stage, or is it just horribly outdated? Or should I just try and run the app some other way? I think it's because the Chromecast just isn't powerful enough to decode the images and send back input to the pc at the same time. I have had limited success with a friend's XB1 but still not much of an improvement.Ĭontroller issues aside, the latency is a killer. The controller I am using is a Dualshock 4. The latency I get when playing games is absolutely insane, and any Bluetooth controllers I connect to the Chromecast stop working when I launch Steam Link. My pc is connected via Powerline directly to the router, and the router is connected directly via ethernet to the CCwGTV. ![]() I have been trying for nearly a year to get Steam Link app working on my Chromecast with Google TV.
